I can’t believe that I have been at this internship for more than a month now. Not having any experience at a PR firm, I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I started. I was pretty nervous on my first day and didn’t really know what to expect when I walked into the office on my first day. Now being at this internship for over a month I have found myself learning new skills that I know will help me in the future.
After taking PR classes at FGCU I thought that my internships would be just like the projects I do in my classes, but since being here I have learned things that I never learned in the classroom. I’ve had experience with everything from the different writing styles as they relate to advertising, public relations and social media. In one week, I wrote a couple of news releases, a blog post and a media advisory. I am still learning how to perfect my writing perfectly but my project manager, Lisa, is very helpful and she has really pushed me to work my best on everything that she has given me and to always ask questions. Public Relations is a profession that forces you to constantly be learning new skills.
One thing I enjoy doing is working on social media content calendars, which I didn’t even know existed until I came here. I could spend my entire day researching and adding content for a company’s social media channels. I feel comfortable enough now in creating content for social media that I’ve produced one for a project in one of my classes.
I am looking forward to learning so much more in the next month and I know that this experience will help me when I go out to find a job. With this internship I feel confident going into a career and being successful.
